A beautiful Gothic castle ruin perched on a 100-meter phonolite cliff situated in Ústí nad Labem at right bank of the river Labe at that thee southern end of the city. It was founded in 1318 by Peąek of Støekov.
It is situated in a romantic landscape.

As seen by most tourists, the Czech Republic consists of pretty towns and rolling countryside under clear skies. In fact, parts of the republic are among the most highly polluted corners of the world.

Usti preserved its medieval town characteristics until the 19^th century, when the advent of the railway and heightened use of water transport created conditions for intensive coal mining.

Terezín was established at the end of the 18th century as a fortress; still surrounded by its massive ramparts, the town lies at the confluence of the rivers Labe (Elbe) and Ohøe (Eger).

Originally a Renaissance building, later reconstructed in the Baroque, definitely modificated in 19th cent. and acquired its present classical sober appearance. Three-wings building encloses the court of honour and the right wing is connected with the "Castle Church". Since 15th cent. it was a seat of Wallenstein family.

The surrounding countryside is often referred to as the "Garden of Bohemia", and the same name is used for an annual fair held in Litomerice.

It belongs to the oldest and the most significant historic libraries in the Czech Republic. With its extent it is the second largest monastic library
